October Classes

Sat-sanga: "true company" - the practice of frequenting the good company of others, in whose presence the ultimate reality may be experienced more palpably.

Ashtanga Yoga with Ben

Mondays, 3:30-5:00pm;Wednesdays, 2:00-3:30pm; & Fridays, 4:00-5:30pm
Ashtanga is the traditional method from which many modern Vinyasa yoga classes stem. Vinyasa, a Sanskrit term for the marriage of breath and movement, strings together the poses of Ashtanga's six series in a way that is both meditative and invigorating. In our Ashtanga classes, we will warm up with sun salutations and standing poses before moving on to the seated poses of the primary series and closing with backbends, inversions and deep relaxation. If you're new to Ashtanga, give Ben a call at (713) 894-6347 to find out more.

Sheng Zhen Qi Gong with Ed Willey
Tuesdays (Movement) 12:00 - 1:00pm & Thursdays (Meditation) 12:00 - 1:00pm
The practice of Qi Gong in general cultivates and exercises an inner power that often results in stronger health and a more peaceful mind. Going further, Sheng Zhen helps to open and purify one's heart, allowing the experience of unconditional love to become tangible and accessible. The essence of this qi gong is easy to learn. The movements are natural and suitable for anyone.

Classes are kept small and intimate, in the style of "sat-sanga". Drop-ins are always welcome when there is room; come by early or call ahead to reserve a space in the class of your choice.

  • one class access - $11 (if pre-registered & prepaid) or $15 for drop-ins
  • weekly unlimited access - $30
  • 5 class access - $50
  • 10 class access - $95
  • monthly unlimited access - $120
  • yearly unlimited access - $1,200

Would you like to meditate or practice yoga, but are not seeing a class that works for you?
I am opening up the studio during non-class times for students that would like to practice on their own. Come by or call for details. Yoga props and meditation blankets are available. We also have 3 great mirrors for use in observing alignment!

Private Sessions also available - $47/hr for 1-4 students.
Book a session for you and your friends that fits your schedule!

Alicia Ranchardt - In a decade of study and practice I have developed a deep love of all things yoga. My path thus far has brought me to the mats of many well known as well as unknown yoga instructors of many different styles and approaches to yoga – I love them all! I draw on this eclectic mix to teach experiential yoga classes, about feeling the body and following the breath, observing what they are teaching. My classes are designed to balance, renew, restore, and recharge your whole being. See you soon!

Edward Willey - Ed has been practicing Aikido and Qi Gong since 1995. After meeting Master Li Jun Feng in 2004 and being introduced to the practice of Sheng Zhen, his studies have taken him around the country and as far away as Manila, Philippines.

Ben Dahlberg - Ben's original guru was The Good Place's own Casey Murphy. Casey taught Ben that yoga doesn't have to be all about gentle stretching set to a New Age soundtrack; it can just as easily be attempting handstands in your living room while listening to gangster rap. After living with Casey for a year, Ben stole his idea to travel to southern India and study Ashtanga, a traditional style of Vinyasa-based yoga. During his three months there he practiced under Saraswathi Rangaswamy, the daughter of Patthabi Jois, Ashtanga's founding guru. Upon returning to the US he attended a teacher training taught by old school Ashtangi David Swenson. He's trying to get back to India as soon as possible to learn more, but in the meantime would love to have you in his class!

Are you an instructor? – Come by and check out our space. We still have room for more classes on our schedule, and teaching a small class is very rewarding!

We also have the space to host small workshops – give us a call or stop by and check it out!

Namaste & see you soon!

Thank you One and All!

September is international yoga month, or some such thing, and one year ago today I opened the tiny studio at The Good Place. Yoga is a special path
to enter onto, and for me, in this life, has played a deep roll in my unfolding.

I want to say a special thank you to all the co-yogis & yoginis that have graced my classes during this past year, and also a warm thank you to all the diverse & wonderful instructors who have shared teaching in this space with me. There is a certain concentration of energy in this space now; existential shifts are instantaneous and healing is simultaneous upon entering it.

Thank you :)

Alicia Ranchardt - In a decade of study and practice I have developed a deep love of all things yoga. My path thus far has brought me to mats of many well known as well as unknown yoga instructors of many different styles and approaches to yoga – I love them all! I draw on this eclectic mix to teach a highly experiential yoga class, about feeling the body and following the breath, learning what they have to teach.

Casey Murphy - Casey started practicing asana 2 years ago after a climbing injury. Since then asana has become the focus of his athletic endeavors. In June of 2008 Casey began his teacher training in his hometown Ojai, CA at Lulu Bandhas Kira Ryder. He enjoys invigorating vinyasa to bring awareness to his physical and emotional well-being.
